The second release from Valentine Vineyards is our 2001 vintage Estate Grown Echo Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2001, the sometimes fickle elements of sun, temperature and rainfall in our vineyards were among the best in a decade. Limited crop yields allowed us to produce just 565 cases of our 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon. Only a few cases still remain for sale.

This wine is classic Cabernet Sauvignon, revealing as well the uniqueness of our Echo Valley, Mendocino appellation. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Valentine Vineyards Block “A”, the wine was aged for 21 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels. Cassis, current, cinnamon, and cedary bramble berry flavors are supported by a framework of ripe tannins combining to produce a full bodied, complex wine of outstanding length and balance. Drinking beautifully on release, this is nonetheless a big Cab that will continue to develop for at least another decade.

Our 2000 vintage Estate Grown Echo Valley Cabernet Sauvignon expresses a depth and purity of Cabernet flavors uncommon to many California Cabernets of this vintage. The 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes selected for this wine came from prime Valentine Vineyard blocks identified for their meager yields of richly intense berries.

Medium in body, the flavor profile of this wine has evolved beautifully. A nose of loganberry and vanilla carries over on the palate along with black fruit and spice box characters enhanced by ripe tannins developed over 26 months of barrel aging in French and American oak. The wine was kept in bottle for another two years prior to release. We think our patience has paid off - Valentine Vineyards 2000 Echo Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is drinking
beautifully on release and will continue to develop and improve for the next 5 to 8 years.

Our 1999 vintage Echo Valley Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon is the debut release from Valentine Vineyards. Its pedigree follows a long line of award winning private bottlings that Bob Valentine has been creating for family and friends since 1987. Valentine Vineyards produces bold and unique wines of superior ripeness, balance and richness, and our 1999 Cabernet is no exception. Densely hued, thoroughly drinkable upon release, and destined to improve with time in the bottle, we feel our first release is a excellent introduction to the distinctive wines produced from our grapes.

We have selected what we believe is the best quality Cabernet fruit from various blocks throughout the vineyard for this exclusive 600 case offering. Layered aromas of berry fruit, licorice, and vanilla create a tantalizing bouquet while flavors in the mouth are balanced, concentrated and rich with the flavors of cherries, blackberries, cassis and a hint of black pepper. Two years in a combination of French and American oak barrels have contributed to the smooth viscous texture and complexity of this Cabernet. It finishes long on the palate, with the necessary structure to improve and maintain its character for many years to come.
